One of the growing areas of the supermarket where we see the Fairtrade mark is in the wine aisle, with all the Co-op's South African wines being Fairtrade, and most supermarkets offering at least one or two Fairtrade options.
A wine tasting is a great way to bring in people who are new to Fairtrade, and the opportunity to taste a number of different red, white and rose tipples can be irresistible.
Fair Preston and South Ribble held a wine tasting evening with Martin Burt, a local wine connoisseur and Fairtrade supporter who had extensively researched the Fairtrade wines available from local suppliers. Wines were served alongside cheese and biscuits for a convivial atmosphere.

The group produced a comprehensive list with prices, tasting notes and details of where the wines were available. In total there were 24 different Fairtrade wines - 12 red and 12 white, and attendees were encouraged to make their own notes and take away the details so they remembered the ones they particularly enjoyed and knew where to buy them for themselves and family and friends.

The event was a great success and formed part of Preston's 20th anniversary celebrations since gaining Fairtrade City status in 2004.
