Fairtrade Garstang with the permission of the Town Trust/ Market Traders
were able to mount a display in the Market Hall windows illustrating the effect of
climate change on Fairtrade producers. This was in place for the whole of the
fortnight.
On Saturday 4th March, we held our regular Fairtrade stall at the Art Centre.
Additionally we were given permission to hold a stall outside the Market Hall on
Saturday 11th March to promote the effect of Climate Change and Fairtrade. It
included a large red heart. The public were invited to write pledges on small green
hearts as to actions that they would take to reduce the effects of climate change.
These were then attached to the big red heart ; the intention being to turn the red heart
green. (See photo above) Borough Councillors Lady Dulcie and Sir Robert Atkins attended and we received a letter from our MP Ben Wallace after we invited him to the event.
Earlier in the day, Garstang Cycle Club met for their weekly cycle ride but this
Saturday left fuelled by an intake of Fairtrade bananas.
Our schools representative visited 6 primary schools and conducted assemblies or
workshops. One school is hoping to become a Fairtrade school and another conducted a survey in Sainsbury’s as to how many Fairtrade products they stocked.
With permission from the Royal Oak we were able to display our large street
banner outside the hotel attached to the railings.

Members of the Fylde Fairtrade Steering Group through their respective churches have donated 154 Fairtrade milk chocolate Real Easter Eggs to our two nominated charities; Fylde Coast Women's Aid and Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre Homestart. The donations were funded through selling eggs with a "Buy Two Give One" scheme - when two eggs were sold at full price, that funded an egg to be donated.
